About us

NHS Charities Together is the national charity for the NHS. We’re here for everyone who uses and works in the NHS, now and for generations to come.

We believe that everyone should have access to the best possible healthcare. But right now, that’s not happening. People are living longer, with more long term and complex health conditions, and the NHS is becoming increasingly overstretched. This means that too many of us are finding it hard to access vital services and we’re not getting the same opportunities to live well. We work with a network of over 230 local and specialist NHS charities across the UK to break down barriers to access, ease pressure on the NHS and improve healthcare experiences for patients and staff.

A message from our CEO, Ellie Orton

Thank you so much for your interest in working at NHS Charities Together.  This is an exciting time to join our team and our charity is on an incredible journey.

We are very proud of what we achieve as a small but growing staff team. We work hard to raise the profile of NHS charities, demonstrate our collective impact, and inspire continued support from the public.

If you are passionate about the helping the NHS tackle today’s challenges and tomorrow’s opportunities and believe that through supporting NHS charities it is possible to significantly increase the vital support given to our hospitals, community, mental health, and ambulance services, we would love to hear from you.

The Strategy & Impact directorate is currently comprised of four teams, Grants, Membership, Evaluation, Learning and Insights, and Programmes, Policy and Partnerships. In addition to these operational delivery components, we are responsible for driving the overall strategic vision for the organisation and also for collaborating with members to maximize our collective impact.

The Fundraising directorate is made up of three teams, those being: Partnerships and Philanthropy, Mass Participation and Supporter Engagement.

The team manages a diverse income portfolio that aims to drive sustainable income for the Charity to enable us to deliver on our impact objectives. We do this through building long-lasting and engaging relationships with partners at a national level, as well as offering several different ways to support us; ranging from philanthropic giving, legacies, national fundraising events and our work with connecting members to their local branches of our corporate supporters, as well as creating national campaigns.

The External Affairs & Communications directorate supports teams across NHS Charities Together. We engage key stakeholders to help achieve our strategic objectives as well as raising awareness of NHS Charities Together, and the vital role of the NHS charity sector. The directorate is comprised of three teams: Strategic Comms & External Affairs – focusing on promoting our voice for the sector through communications and engagement with member NHS Charities, healthcare and government stakeholders and Brand & Marketing and Media teams - dedicated to raising the profile of NHS Charities Together and the NHS charity sector to engage supporters with our cause.

The Finance and Operations directorate across NHS Charities Together manages the internal functions of the charity, including Finance, IT, HR, People and Organisational Change and Governance. These teams ensure that our charity is well led and complies with legislation, as well as managing our long-term financial strategy, EDI strategy, and workforce planning.
